Hetal Shrivastav

Born and brought up in a Gujarati family of weavers, Hetal grew up in an environment where traditions were genuinely valued, things were up cycled if they stopped functioning and dignity of work prevailed.

Being fashion graduate from NIFT Gandhinagar, Hetal founded Raasleela Textile in 2012. The workshop in Ahmedabad makes 100% hand stitched garments and accessories by employing urban and rural women artisans where no machines are used at all.

For more than 6 years now, she has been working directly with the artisans conducting training programs, documentation and research. Finding out interesting stories behind the traditional embroidery techniques, colors, motifs and placements and to use it in contemporary way is her expertise.

Hetal is a government empanelled designer and is associated doing design consultation with organizations like Alba Collective, Sewa Haweli, All India Artisans and Craftworkers Association (AIACA), Purkul Stree Shakti Samiti, The Nabha Foundation, Sardar Jankalyan Vikas to name few.

Being mediator for two different cultures has always been fascinating; with breakaway meeting new people, sharing stories, learning & teaching is something I enjoy the most.
