Until now, Delhi has always been a political, historical and a heritage kaleidoscope for me. But Breakaway Textile Tour peeled away some very interesting layers of the city for me, which were, till now, completely hidden away in the shadows. "Breakway" introduced me to a magnificent textile industry, tucked away like a fine stitch in the quiet labyrinths of the city, waiting to be explored. I could never imagine such a pulsating industry of textile was thriving so richly within our city limits. Not only was I introduced to the various production techniques, I was charmed by the incredible weaving skills of the weavers, so painstakingly built over the years, and something, I imagined, only existed in remote corners of our country. The tour is a beautiful tale spun by a masterful storyteller. Not to be missed.

I went on a textile trail in my own city Delhi with Breakaway #BreakawayTrails. It was a wonderful re-discovery of own my city in the context of its rich textile heritage and legacy. Just as my city Delhi is the pot pourri of all the diverse cultures of the nation, so it is with regards to the textile heritage. I spent many hours enjoying all the crafts & textiles, collected from all over India and showcased lovingly by artisans and curators. It was indeed one of the best ways I experienced my city in a long time.

Arti Jain who went on an immensely enjoyable Delhi Textile trail
It was indeed a pleasure meeting and getting to know you all on this tour - believe it or not - my first ever packaged group travel experience. That I could breakaway from solo travel with a thoughtfully crafted one and with such an interesting and eclectic lot has inspired me to experiment with more such trips.

It was a perfectly organised trip with a great schedule, we enjoyed it tremendously. Thank you to our guide for being an extra-ordinary guide who took us into the magical world of Kashmir. His deep knowledge and passion for all things Kashmir brought alive the place for us in a way no ordinary tour could have. In addition, his patience and understanding of our needs, attention to detail and fun personality, made this a truly special trip.
Devika Devaiah, Kashmir Craft trip, Sep 2015
We had a great trip and are still glowing in the aftermath of all we saw and heard and touched, thank you.
Brinda & Viveck Crishna, Kashmir Craft trip, August 2015
Shyamala ma'am is a passionate and patient teacher and I learned a lot about the history and theoretical knowledge about the art of Block-printing. The skills I have learned and the practice within session that enhanced the same were immensely satisfying.
A big 'THANK YOU' to Shyamala ma'am and Team Break-away for facilitating this experience! :D
Lamia Bagasrawala, Block Printing Workshop in Mumbai, May 2015
We have had an amazing time. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done to make our stay extraordinary. Everything went like clockwork. Vikram our driver was wonderful. We had excellent guides. The hotels were much nicer than anywhere I stay at home. And of, course we loved our time on the Chambal River, playing with elephants, walking through the markets, sitting in our bay window overlooking the lake in Udaipur - we also spent a fabulous afternoon in the pool on the other side of our suite - riding camels across the dunes followed by a candle lit dinner. The list just goes on and on.

Thank you so much for putting together such a wonderful trip. It has been very inspiring and interesting. We've met so many great people and stayed at some really nice places.
We couldnt have asked for a better trip. We've felt so lucky to have had someone with so much knowledge about the textile-field in india to origanize our trip.
Thank you for giving us an introduction to (a small portion) of the indian craft, the journey has only just begun.
Mathilda on her textile trip to Delhi, Rajasthan & Kutch, March 2015
The various outings to see craftspeople and their work were very instructive, and without an exception the people were kind and more than willing to share their technical prowess.
Bernard & Rashna Imhalsy on their trip to Kutch, January 2015
Given our friend Susan Weltman's recommendation we had the highest expectations of Break-Away. These were equaled and exceeded. We could not have asked for a better experience. The advance advice and detailed responses to our many requests were answered promptly and thoroughly, and all details of air travel, airport pickup, and local guiding went off splendidly. The really outstanding aspect of our experience with Break-Away, though, was the local guides and driver. Each of the six guides brought not just a wealth of experience with the details of the respective cities -- answering and expanding on all this retired prof's interests in dynastic history, religion, and today's cultural scene -- but they did so in ways that involved frank and open expression of their own personal and spiritual involvement with what we were seeing. This was a wonderful experience from start to finish, and we'll be recommending it to all who are headed to India.
Douglas & Susan Davis on their trip to Mumbai, Delhi, Agra & Jaipur, March 2015
The most important factor in the textile tour was our wonderful facilitator. It was indeed a privilege to be with her - her character, her knowledge and her general competence. Every textile location we visited was fascinating and inspiring. Also the tour of the old city of Ahmedabad was great.
Judith Green, on their Kutch Textile Trip, Feb 2015
Thank you for organising such a well-curated trip. I really enjoyed every moment of the trip. I must say that the trip was well planned out and all our needs were taken care of. Our guide was the perfect facilitator, guide and friend. All in all, the trip lived up to my expectations.
Aliya Ladhabhoy, Textile Trail to Kutch, Feb 2015
Our trip was so jam packed with experiences that it will take quite a while to absorb it all. Or, maybe that is just me, but I am still processing it. There was so much stimulation of all sorts. I can tell you one thing for certain-- I think you did an excellent job for us in providing really unique experiences. :)
Kristi K Gasaway, Lawyer, on their trip to Mumbai, Varanasi, Delhi & Rajasthan, December 2014
Your vivid descriptions, well chosen photos and aesthetically pleasing style and layout immediately grabbed my attention.
I have continued to appreciate your good taste and knowledge of quality areas.
Your speedy response to the Kashmir crisis was wonderful and the 4 alternative trips that you proposed had a great balance of history, culture with opportunities to visit authentic places.
We were amazed that you produced such a well-planned tour of Rajasthan at such short notice and loved every minute of this trip. It was a great combination of unexpected, non-touristy visits to havelis and small villages contrasting the more popular tourist attractions around Jaipur. You have a good sense of balance for aesthetics, authenticity and local knowledge.
I would certainly love to join another of your tours.
Sheila Baker, UK, on her Straight from the Art, Shekhawati trip in Sept 2014
We had a fantastic and inspiring time, the trip was transformative--it was such an honor to meet the weavers, and Sapna was a gracious and informative guide, and we enjoyed learning about each step of the sari weaving process.
Jill Magi, Senior Lecturer, Writing, NYU Abu Dhabi on Textile trail Kanjipuram, August 2014
I can still remember all the colours and experiences of our trip.We loved our direct interaction with the printers and weavers, (a high point) and do hope that it worked for them too, even if they are/were not used to it. The overall experience was positive and most 'special' was meeting the artisans, which is was what we've come away with.
Elizabeth Verghese, Bangalore on a Textile & Craft Trail to Central India, Feb 2014
Thank you so much for all of your planning, we had an amazing time.We loved printing our own stoles. This was a trip we won't forget anytime soon!
Nuha Naqvi and Lynn Nakamura in Jaipur Dec 2013
I wanted to go some place for some "me time"... and Breakaway picked that cue and chose two extremely apt locations... it was certainly a holiday to cherish!
Still basking in the afterglow of this fantastic trip. This was our first visit to Srinagar and what a historical, beautiful and also tragic place! I loved the way your team did a turnaround with the days, and made sure this trip was an experience of a lifetime, everything was just perfect.

Terrific trip... four wonderful co-travelers, bound by this wonderful passion for textiles.... it was truly a textile EXPERIENCE! I am now a Life-Member with Breakaway...
Shyamala Rao, Mumbai, Textile Trail in Tamil Nadu, April 2013
Your professionalism is refreshing and unique in so many ways. Only someone with absolute passion and knowledge on Indian textiles could put together something like this and open a whole new world for people like me to explore.
